As Airsoft has evolved, so has the performance of AEG's. The demand for better trigger response, torque, and rate of fire has Airsofters pumping more voltage and current through their motors than ever.
Because of low-ratio Gearsets and DSG's, very high rates of fire can be accomplished without using high speed motors. The desire for torque has caused some technicians to create their own extreme torque motors from spare parts. This usually consists of taking a 28-32TPA armature from a ferrous motor can and placing it into a neodymium can.
Because of the growing demand for high torque motors that can handle high stress, ASG decided to create their own line of custom 28TPA motors.
These ASG 28TPA motors yield extreme torque at the cost of speed. Not only are these motors well made from high quality parts, they also pass through superior QC compared to most other brands.
The Pinion Gear is fully CNC machined, and so is the motor case and endbell. The Pinion is O-type for optimal concentricity. The pinions are difficult to remove, and I can't foresee them ever coming undone during a game. All of the armatures are tightly shimmed and give just the right amount of play. This newest generation of ASG 28TPA motors all have ventilated motor cans and improved pinion gears.
The heat treatment process for the pinion isn’t just run at one temperature, but rather by a computer controlled program based around the combination of temperature ranges and time the pinions are exposed in each range. The temperature program for the new version of the pinions has been modified to better enhance the desired characteristics of the metal used, and is considered proprietary.
In addition to this, the ASG 28TPA motors use huge vertical brushes for best contact with the commutator. The armature design is the best I've seen and uses drilled holes for balancing. The armature also uses large bearings on both sides.
These motors are 28TPA and not 32TPA like most custom extreme torque motors. I personally prefer 28TPA since it still provides immense torque and yields a slightly higher rate of fire than 32TPA.
This motor is best suited for the following:
Dual-Sector Gear builds (DSG's)
Semi-auto DMR players
Users using 10.44:1 SSG Gears or similar low ratio SSG Gears.
Milsim players who want a realistic rate of fire with standard ratio Gears
