Just a few features I want to mention that the description missed:
+++Non-Magnetic:
The Ares/LCT Super High Torque motors this 'slim' motor replaces have 'extremely' strong magnets in them that are constantly grabbing every screw, washer and every tiny spec of ferrous material in a four inch radius. The motors can snap to the receiver of the rifle with incredible strength, potentially damaging the sheathing of the motor wires when doing so. This Solink brushless motor is completely non-magnetic. Very easy to work with in this regard.
+++Anti-Reversal Latch Removal:
This makes the gearbox so much easier to assemble/disassemble. I couldn't tell if it made it any quieter, and it's possible it eliminates potential shimming issues with the bevel gear. It's very nice to have just for ease of assembly though.
+++More Fine-tuned Motor Height Adjustment:
The threaded collar on this unit that screws to the gearbox has much finer threads than the ones on the Ares/LCT branded models, which are quite coarse. This can lead to difficulty getting the pinion/bevel gears shimmed right with the Ares/LCT offerings. The engagement steps are much finer with the Solink.
+++Better Pinion Gear:
The pinion gear on the Ares Super High Torque motor is a strange shape, much narrower than all the others I've used. It does not mesh well with the gearsets I've tried to use it with, and I've needed to replace it on both guns I've installed one on. Can't remember if the LCT 'slim' motor also had this issue. But the Solink motor comes with a normal pinion gear that seems to work fine out of the box.
+++Works great with the Perun Hybrid V3
No issues!
Performance: Bought this to see how fast/spammy I could get on semi-auto with a rifle already upgraded with high-speed gears, 14.8v (or 11.1v) battery, and an ETU. Mainly trying to see if I could match the semi ROF of HPA-users. It's extremely fast, but I'm not sure how much more so than the already quite powerful motors that come with the slim grips anyway.
If you want extreme torque in semi, or extreme speed in full-auto, I'm sure this can provide either. But as for spamming the trigger at semi-only events in a normal rifleman role, I'm not sure it's worth replacing the slim extreme high-torque motor.
My complaints:
---It's difficult to attach to some gearboxes. Attempting to mate the Solink with a Bullgear GB shell took a while, as the fit was extremely tight. This is an issue with the Ares/LCT motors as well.
---No source for just the slim grip. You gotta buy the inferior Ares/LCT motor+grip combo and then throw motor away. LCT has more colors and only one screw hole at the bottom like a real AK, the Ares has two screw holes for some reason (although you can fill the back one with black epoxy and sand flat.)
Battery performance???
Brushless motors are supposed to be far more battery efficient... Not enough experience yet to tell.
Slim grip:
As an aside, I love the slim grips that Ares first debuted for the AK, a traditional airsoft AEG pistol grip feels like a brick by comparison. If you're used to shooting a real AK you'll feel right at home. Absolutely worth picking up a slim grip + motor combo instead of a normal high-torque motor if you're doing a less extreme build. Keep in mind the above limitations though.
